if any of us bothered

to decipher the ruckus

understand what they speak of when they meet to discuss us

what an integral take

on the lay of the land

as they fly

as they say

if we could understand

when dusk falls

and they meet

turning into dark leaves

they fill trees and hold council

without fail every evening

as they fly

as they say

if any of us bothered

to decipher the ruckus
we’d be much better off
as we might understand us.
